Hamas’ Attack on Israel Makes India’s Diplomacy More Challenging

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on X that he felt very surprised and sad about the news of terrorist attacks in Israel cities, following reports of Hamas launching rockets.

The news talks about a fight between two groups in a faraway place called Israel and Gaza. This fight makes the world split into two sides, like in a game. India, another faraway place, is struggling to decide who to support in this fight. They were trying to become more important in a different part of the world, the Middle East, by being friends with them and doing important things there.

The leader of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said he was very sad about the attacks. He also said he supports Israel, which is on one side of the fight. But the people who work in India’s Foreign Affairs office haven’t said anything official yet. They only shared what the Prime Minister said.

Some people are mad at the ones who started the fight, and others think the fight is because of how Israel treats a place called Palestine. India seems to be on the side of Israel in this situation.

India has been trying to be friends with countries in the Middle East, where Israel is, to do big things together and be important in the world. But this fight is making it hard for India because one of the countries they want to be friends with, Saudi Arabia, is unhappy about what’s happening. This fight might mess up the plans India had with Saudi Arabia.

India has been friends with Israel for a while and has also supported the people in Palestine. It’s a bit complicated. India started being better friends with Israel in the 1990s, and they helped each other during a war. India still says they support Palestine, but they’re good friends with Israel too.

The fight happening far away is challenging for India because they don’t want to make anyone mad. They have important connections and business deals with countries involved in the fight, so it’s hard for them to choose a side. They want peace and talking instead of fighting, like when there’s a problem in Ukraine. It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
