TMC claims BJP imitated Bengal model, denies responsibility of INDIA partners for Congress’ loss

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh mentioned that the INDIA group would gain acceptance among people if it presented Mamata Banerjee’s welfare model in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

On Sunday, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) asserted that the INDIA coalition partners shouldn’t be held responsible for the Congress’s defeat in the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

The TMC claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victories in these states by replicating the social welfare models implemented by the West Bengal government.

As of Sunday evening, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had yet to issue statements on the election results. BJP supporters celebrated their success throughout the state.

While the BJP in Bengal interpreted the verdict as a sign of the potential outcome of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, where the party secured 18 out of 42 seats in 2019, the ruling TMC responded by launching the first graffiti for the Lok Sabha poll campaign in Kolkata on Sunday.

TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh stated, “Internal problems of the Congress-led to its failure. Congress should wake up from hibernation and shed its landlord mentality. INDIA coalition partners will not take responsibility for the Congress’s failure.” He argued that the BJP copied Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s social welfare schemes, influencing voters in its favor.

Ghosh emphasized that the Congress contested the elections in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh independently, without prominent INDIA coalition leaders playing a role in the campaign. He suggested that projecting Mamata Banerjee’s welfare model in 2024 could make the Indian coalition more acceptable to the people.

As of 6 pm, no Bengal Congress leader, including state president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, had responded to the TMC’s statements.

Predicting a BJP sweep in the Lok Sabha polls in Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, claimed that the TMC government would collapse after the national elections, initiating a campaign against the party from Monday.
