Apple plans to incorporate OLED displays into nine new iPad models by the year 2027

The 12.9-inch iPad Air model is anticipated to incorporate the new OLED display technology in 2027, following its initial release with an LCD display in early 2024.

Apple is reportedly in the process of incorporating OLED display technology by 2027, unveiling a lineup of nine new devices. Anticipated releases include OLED displays for the iPad mini and iPad Air in 2026, with both iPad Pro models expected to follow suit next year, as per information initially disclosed by Taiwan’s ET News.

The iPad Air is poised to debut with a 10.9-inch display, while the iPad mini is projected to feature an 8.3 to 8.7-inch display. Apple aims to introduce the OLED display technology to the 12.9-inch iPad Air model in 2027, with an interim LCD display slated for the early part of 2024.

Furthermore, Apple plans to enhance the iPad Pro’s OLED panels in 2027, incorporating an upgraded next-generation panel with improved light efficiency through Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE), aiming to reduce power consumption by approximately 20 percent.

The use of a color filter is expected to facilitate the implementation of under-display camera technology on the iPad for the first time. The report also suggests that Apple is rumored to introduce OLED technology to the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2025, with the 14-inch model following suit in 2026.

In 2026, the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to transition from LCD to OLED, according to the report. Additionally, Apple announced support for the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard on iPhones in late 2024, providing improved interoperability for cross-platform messages, as stated in an official statement to 9to5Mac by the tech giant.
