The Bihar chief minister provided a comprehensive explanation in the state assembly about how educated women can influence their husbands during sexual intercourse while emphasizing the importance of women’s education in population control.
“Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar delivered a detailed explanation in the state Assembly on how educated women can influence their husbands during sexual intercourse while underscoring the significance of women’s education in population control.
Kumar stated, ‘The husband’s actions lead to more births. However, with education, a woman knows how to restrain him…this is the reason birth rates are decreasing.’
In an attempt to defend Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav suggested that the remark was related to ‘sex education.’
The B.J.P. national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, strongly criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, labeling him as ‘most misogynistic, vulgar, and patriarchal’ for his comments regarding the importance of women’s education in population control.
They also demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation, with Poonawalla stating, ‘This is the mindset of the Chief Minister of Bihar. Imagine the plight of women in Bihar if such language is used in the Bihar Assembly.’
The National Commission for Women (N.C.W.) has urged the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly to take decisive action against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his remarks in the Assembly regarding the crucial role of women’s education in population control. They have also called for an apology from the Chief Minister.
The N.C.W. expressed its strong condemnation and protest of such vulgar and derogatory remarks by individuals in positions of authority, demonstrating extreme disrespect for women, in a letter to Awadh Bihari Choudhary, the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly.
N.C.W. Chief Rekha Sharma took to social media to demand a clear and immediate apology from Nitish Kumar, condemning his derogatory language and stressing the importance of accountability. She also called on other prominent female leaders, including Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (A.A.P.), Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress, and Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena (U.B.T.), to denounce Kumar’s comments and call for an apology.
The situation escalated further, with the N.C.W. Chief involving Priyanka Chaturvedi and Priyanka Gandhi in a social media dispute. Chaturvedi mentioned that she would not support sexist comments from anyone, even if they were part of the I.N.D.I.An alliance, but suggested giving Nitish the opportunity to apologize and retract his statement.
On Wednesday, Nitish Kumar expressed deep regret for his remarks and retracted them. His apology followed criticism from the opposition, and B.J.P. members in Delhi held a protest near Bihar Bhawan in Chanakyapuri, demanding Kumar’s resignation.
