Anju Rafael, a 34-year-old woman from Rajasthan, who had traveled to Pakistan in July to marry her Facebook friend Nasarullah and had reportedly converted to Islam as Fatima, returned to India on Wednesday.
Anju, who entered through the Wagah border, was interrogated at a Border Security Force camp and may face further questioning in New Delhi.
Her journey to Pakistan prompted legal action from her husband of 10 years, Arvind Kumar, who filed a case under diverse sections of the Indian Penal Code. Anju’s return raised the prospect of formal interrogation in Rajasthan, where she would reunite with her two children.
Nasarullah, her purported husband in Pakistan, mentioned that Anju, also known as Fatima, had sought government approval for her visit to Rajasthan, awaiting a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the internal ministry in Islamabad.
Nasarullah explained that the NOC process was underway but could be time-consuming.
