The Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, will be remembered as an important event in India’s sports history. It shows how hard Indian athletes worked to be the best.
At the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou, China, Indian athletes did well. They showed a lot of determination and did a fantastic job. They won 107 medals, which was even more than what they won in Jakarta in 2018.
Of these 107 medals, there were 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals. This was way better than what the Indian team did four years ago when they won 70 medals with fewer athletes.

China won the most medals with 200 golds, and Japan and South Korea were ahead of India. But it’s still impressive because only four countries got over 100 medals in Hangzhou.
The Indian shooters were the stars, winning 22 medals, including 7 golds. In athletics, Neeraj Chopra did a great job by winning the javelin throw, and overall, India won 6 golds, 14 silvers, and 9 bronzes in track and field events.
Indian archers also did well by winning all 5 gold medals in their category. Cricket and kabaddi teams also won gold, and the men’s hockey team won gold and secured a place in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won India’s first-ever men’s doubles gold in badminton. India also won gold in squash, tennis, and equestrian events. Both men’s and women’s cricket teams won gold medals too.
But it’s not just about the medals. Hangzhou also gave a chance to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. India secured six spots in different sports, with boxing leading the way. Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain earned their spots for Paris. Athletics and men’s hockey also contributed to India’s strong presence in the French capital.
